Job description

The Prime Minister’s Office enables the Prime Minster to deliver the Government’s overall priorities and to communicate the Government’s policies to Parliament, the public and international audiences. From the Policy Unit and Press Office, Switchboard and Custodians, to the Events & Visits team and the world class Private Office support; the diverse Downing Street team draws on varied expertise from across the Civil Service and beyond. The teams come together to deliver excellent service to the Prime Minister while also making No10 a great place to work.
Main duties of the post:

• Build and maintain excellent relations within No10 and with government departments
• Maintain close working relations with political colleagues, advising on departmental grid requests
• Contribute to the management of the government news grid, ensuring it is always up to date and accurate
• Horizon scan to ensure external events relevant to government are captured
• Prepare grids and other briefing documents on a weekly basis to the standard required by No 10
• Act as a champion for the grid both internally and across Whitehall

A strong candidate is needed to work in a strategic communications planning team at the heart of government. This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced and high-profile communications team.

You will need to build relationships with grid planners across Whitehall to deliver the government’s communications strategy and provide written briefings to Downing Street colleagues. You will need to have a critical mind, a high degree of political awareness and a proven record of working at pace in a complex organisation.

The successful applicant will have excellent judgement, strong writing skills, a keen eye for detail while focusing on the bigger picture and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Please note that this role requires SC clearance, which would normally require 5 years’ UK residency in the past 5 years. This is not an absolute requirement but supplementary checks may be required where individuals have not lived in the UK for the required period. This may mean that your security clearance (and therefore your appointment) will take longer or, in some cases, not be possible.
